Save Undershaw House: Submissions needed!
aguidetodeduction:
As mentioned here [x] I have decided to try and pull together the efforts of the Sherlock fandom to make a book supporting Undershaw House.
(The home of Sherlock Holmes mastermind and altogether eccentric English inspiration, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.)
Today I’m starting to take submissions of any form (of any adaptations).
This includes:
Drawings
Poems
Graphics

Notes from a Beta: How to get a beta
tzikeh:
This is a really interesting question, because it’s not just a matter of finding a beta; it’s a matter of finding a beta who focuses on what it is you want from a beta, and has an approach to beta work that fits with your approach to writing.
In my experience, the first thing that fanfiction authors do when looking for a beta is post in lj comms or on tumblr. I have found that this...

I see the "Elementary" casting news broke.
Confession: I found out about this weeks ago and have been kind of waiting/dreading for it to go public.
I have been mostly staying out of the whole “Elementary” issue because…well, I don’t care all that much, but this I think I’d like to weigh in on. The following is my opinion. YMMV.
I think it’s good.
Why?
1. The more different they make it from...

PayPal sucks, part 12301094356293
So, did anyone else get an email informing them that PayPal would be holding money they receive for 21 days?
Yeah. Just got off the phone with them about this new and exciting way they’ve figured out to make their customers’ lives difficult. I RARELY SELL THINGS ON EBAY. Almost all my payments are for writing services. But apparently if I don’t want this money held, I have to...
Two part question from flockofbirds…
dear lori, this is a rather embarrasing question so bear with me, please. I’ve been reading your stories and I love every single one of them. Lately I got to read Genie’s blog. I thought I wouldn’t like it, but the truth is that I simply loved it. Your stories got me thinking about love. The concept as such, and whether or not love in a...
Anonymous asked: Have you ever written/would you ever write an F/F romance?
Today I am going to try hard to answer a whole...
tinseltowncloud asked: Lori! Happy Oscar week! Just wanted to let you know that at all the parties and panels and hoopla I (of course) am always thinking about PIALR's John and Sherlock and how they'd be dealing with all this (I really want fanart of J & S in the "Oscar Nominee" sweatshirts they give out at the nominee luncheon). Hope you're doing great!
Anonymous asked: Dear Lori, So I like to write and was thinking about maybe reworking an old fanfic with original characters ect. to submit to a publisher specializing in homoerotic works. I'm not particularly ashamed of this, but I'm a bit worried about what my family might think should I happen to get published. Do I say "HEY MOM, MY GAY PORN JUST GOT PUBLISHED!" Or should I just not mention...

Anonymous asked: Did the samsung blu ray player work out for the UK 50hz discs?
Anonymous asked: I feel now is a good time to mention that you are (to me at least) as cool as Swedish Crown Princess Victoria. Who I happen to think is quite cool.

I have a confession to make.
This may cause you to question my worth as a person and seriously doubt the existence of my soul, but I just can’t labor under this burden of secrecy any longer. I have to be honest. I can’t deny my nature.
I don’t care about the Muppets.
Not even a little bit.
I never wanted to be any of them. My childhood is not the story of them. I saw the movies, sure. I didn’t watch...
It’s an abdication of narrative responsibility, in my view. The storyteller, in...
– Philip Pullman calls time on the present tense | Books | The Guardian (via robotnic)
Present-tense on its own doesn’t bother me so much…but first-person present-tense is just anathema to me. It tastes wrong in my head and I am not in favor of it.
(via linguaphile)
Still unsure on how I feel about...

Question for the hive mind
What’s the difference on a OC between “hibernate” and “sleep?” Because regardless of which one I use, when I turn the computer back on I get that “Windows did not shut down properly” white-on-black screen.
